Who is the Slave

Luke 17:5-10 Suppose one of you has a slave plowing or looking after the sheep. Will he say to the slave when he comes in from the field, Come along now and sit down to eat? 8 Wont he rather say, Prepare my supper, get yourself ready and wait on me while I eat and drink, after that you may eat and drink? 9 Will he thank the slave because he did what he was told to do? 10 So you also, when you have done everything you were told to do, should say, We are unworthy slave, we have only done our duty.

Renowned evangelical preacher John MacArthur in his new book, Slave: The Hidden Truth About Your Identity in Christ, shares how we have lost the real meaning of following Jesus because of softened misinterpretation.

* Slave is the word that almost every English translation of Scripture has avoided using, in favor of the term servant.

* word doulos is the word in Greek for slave;

1 Cor.  6: 20 You are not your own, you were bought with a price. Therefore honor God with your body.

Lets pick this apart:

* Come in from the field = Field is the world
* Come along now and sit down to eat.
* Rather Prepare my supper (marriage supper of the lamb = bride)
* Get yourself ready (Word, Prayer, etc)
* wait on me. = serve him
* after that you may eat = eternity

The apostles called themselves SLAVES of JESUS CHRIST.

* Romans 1:1 From Paul, a bond SLAVE of JESUS CHRIST
* 2 Peter 1:1 a SLAVE and apostle of JESUS CHRIST
* James 1:1 a SLAVE of God and of the Lord JESUS CHRIST

The fault of the church is that we have this backwards mentality that Gods here to serve us.

* I came to church, so God do this
* I gave in the offering, so God do that
* I prayed, so God move in this situation.

Our attitude should be:
* God Im coming to church to hear from you, what can I do for you.

In your relationship with God, who is the servant and who is the Master.
